C4 Landscaping is a small, family-run operation based in Lawndale. The "4" is the four family members on the crew — and the story behind it goes back further than the business itself.
Ethan grew up in the Gastonia area and now calls Lawndale home, where C4's shop is run right out of the property — no commercial yard across town, no overhead baked into your quote. He learned landscaping the way most good ones do: out in the yard with his dad, summer after summer, job after job. His dad taught him every in and out of the trade.
Ethan started his career on heavy equipment, working as a heavy equipment mechanic for Carolina Cat — which is why our skid steers, mulchers, and chippers stay running no matter the season. He worked the trade alongside his father straight through patrol school on his way to becoming a North Carolina state trooper. The plan, from the start, was that he and his dad would grow the business together once patrol school was done.
His specialty on the crew is land clearing and forestry work — exactly the kind of equipment-heavy work he came up through. When his dad passed away in 2023, Ethan founded C4 to carry the dream forward — and the legacy that came with it. Same eye for detail his father had. Same standards. Same plain-spoken way of telling you exactly what your property needs and what it doesn't.
C4 isn't a chain. It isn't a franchise. It's a small family-rooted crew based in Lawndale, doing landscaping the way Ethan's dad taught him: show up on time, finish what you start, and leave the property better than you found it.
Four family members running this thing together — Ethan as founder (clearing & forestry specialist), Tanner and Jackson — his two sons earning degrees in landscape design and agriculture at NC State — and Allen heading up tree work, construction, and hardscape design.
Founder · Lawndale
Grew up in the trade with his dad across the Shelby area and Gaston County. Former NC state trooper. Carrying his father's legacy forward through C4.
Son · Landscape Design
Studying landscape design at NC State. Tanner has an eye for design and a deep working knowledge of which plants, trees, and shrubs grow best in our soil — and look great doing it.
Son · Forestry & Agriculture
Works alongside Ethan on every forestry and agriculture project. Specialty: setting up fields and fence lines for pasture and food plots for wildlife.
Trees · Construction · Hardscape Design
Runs every tree job and construction project, and co-designs our hardscape and softscape builds with the crew. Decades of chainsaw and bucket experience — the most senior trade hand on the team.
The number we quote is the number you pay. No surprise upcharges mid-project. Change orders only when you ask for a change.
No subs. The four of us on every job. Easier to hold accountable when the same name is on the truck and on the quote.
Hard surfaces blown clean, debris hauled off, tools and trailer leave the property looking like we were never there. Every visit.
Most weekly service has zero deposit. Larger projects — hardscape installs, tree removal, materials-heavy work — require a deposit so we can lock in materials. We'll spell it out clearly in the quote.
$2 million general liability through NC Farm Bureau — double the typical landscape contractor policy. Workers comp on every crew member. Certificate of insurance available before any work begins.
$2,000,000 policy through NC Farm Bureau — double the typical landscape contractor coverage. COI on request before any work starts.
